So using my good versus evil statement
to describe my understanding of life,
i will say that "capitalism and communism,
in their most extreme forms" represents
the struggle between good vs evil.

Well, you can phrase it anyway that leaves you satisfied.

However, my old college professors stated it as the battle to find the middle ground between private and public market failure. A prime example of this is the concept of "workfare" versus "welfare". Where as the latter increases and maintains dependency on the state, providing little incentive to become independent, the former focuses on providing opportunity and demanding progress towards independence.

Capitalism has many things to offer a "civilized" society. However, that being said, there are places where govt can and should step in to better the lives of its citizens and promote opportunity where capitalism has failed to provide it.

Simple as that, Doug. And in contrast to your metaphysical interpretation of it, it forms the basis of ongoing debates in modern economic theory.

Ron
