When its all said and done (and when the net gets faster, as its horribly slow unless isdn or cable) the B2C amounts to another catalogue channel, with the potential to reduce costs (postage and catalogue printing typically represents 20-25% of a typical catalogue house's costs).
so net is a faster and potentially cheaper way to distribute catalogues.........so whats the big deal about?
Real winners will ultimately be the McMaster Carr's, Granger and other specialized (read barrier to easy entry) catalogue houses, who have loage printing and catalogue distribution costs, with the potential to save order entry costs via browser based order forms (cheaper and more accurate than phone in entry).
