it's a mistake to think that a roll is undesirable. The roll can be a mini sales campaign and it nips trouble before it can start. Trying to avoid it brings a new can of worms A truck roll is not preferable to self install, if a self install can be achieved as easily as an AOL install. However, I don't see an easy install in @HOME's future, so acknowledging the truck roll and using it to your advantage is vital. Regards Jay

Why am I dwelling on self-installs. Because that is what he put out as guidance. Whether you feel he's full of shit or whether you believe truck rolls are important is not of that much interest. It's important that he has positioned self-installs as the magic technological bullet that will keep the company on guidance. Your point about the guidance being irrelevant in the big picture is correct. But we live in a metric driven world & it's naive to believe failure to meet the metric Bell has stressed is key, will not affect investor sentiment. In 5 years will it make a difference, probably not - will it make a difference in 2000-2001, very likely.

Further, it's a mistake to think that a roll is undesirable You simply dont get it do you? How do you expect ATHM to reach 8 million subscribers? How about 20 million? 60? 200? One truck roll at a time? Gimme a break. If self install doesnt work @home is doomed. It's that simple. If it does work why the heck is it taking so long? Eric P.S. If I'm still short I will cover and go long the instant @home announces self install. That is the only news I care about hearing anymore.
