Red D.,

Is that really true? It seems this leg of the cycle is hardly in the early stages.

1. We've just finished a period of about 3 years of underinvestment in fab capacity.

2. Demand has been and is skyrocketing due to:

Global recovery;
Internet becoming ubiquitous globally;
Other Telecom revolutions especially wireless stuff;
Chips permeating every aspect of life.

3. Capacity builds are happening and represent the first wave of this up leg.

4. Technology R&D, Process development is underway for a variety of innovations including Copper and 300mm. This will add to the capacity expansion.

5. Copper capacity will be rolled out in Production fabs; and some time will be required to get yields up to today's standards. i.e. - fewer chips will be produced than some analysts (read Jon "braindead" Joseph) are predicting.

6. Same as pt. 5 above except for 300mm - still have Jon "BrainDead" J. who admits his call "might be a bit early". Now there's an understatement.

In a nutshell, we have more demand from more sources increasing more rapidly than ever before. And we have a couple technology shifts underway that will require new fabs with new tooling throughout (or nearly so) that will dwarf any prior up leg the sector has seen.

The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades. :-)

Ian.
