Frankly, I think EMC and SUNW are two of the most outstanding companies on the market

Sun is a great server company that continues to benefit from a superb product development cycle that started around 1995. It likes to think of itself as the thought leaders, the creators of the Dot Kapital of the dotcom revolution.<g>

But the fact still remains that the storage business is growing faster than the server business. If you look back to 1996 and 1997 -- when Wintel exceeded Unix in terms of units sold -- Sun's rhetoric against EMC has consistently escalated even as they struggle to deploy a price-based storage strategy outside of their Solaris stronghold with their now trailing-edge storage networking products. I don't think less caffeine will change that pattern of behavior. Sun is what it is.

The bottomline is that a mindshare and technology leader like EMC cannot afford to let its guard down against a saliva leader like Sun even though, as you say, both will thrive in a booming early-stage market.
