A T M I GAS TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY BECOMES PROCESS OF RECORD

Dozens of Systems to Ship Over 18 Months to Major Chip Manufacturer

DANBURY, CT -- July 25, 2000 -- ATMI, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATMI) today
announced that a major U.S. logic chip manufacturer has approved its
Guardian products as the process of record gas treatment system for their
silicon nitride diffusion furnaces. Shipments are expected to continue over
the next 18 months to many of the customer's major worldwide fab locations.
The Guardian products join ATMI's CDO(tm) and Vector(r) technologies as
process of record abatement systems for this customer.

Jim Burns, President of ATMI's Systems Division, said, "Over many
months, we made great efforts to identify for this customer the value of
using ATMI's Guardian combustion scrubbers. Our efforts to highlight the
benefits of our environmental systems paid off with this process of record
approval. Now that three of our four major abatement product lines are
approved for purchase at this chip manufacturer, we can focus on making it
four of four."

Doug Neugold, ATMI President, said, "ATMI is the only semiconductor
environmental company that offers not only all key scrubber technologies,
but also the life safety sensors and monitors for each fab production
material. Global chip companies recognize ATMI's worldwide product service
and support network is available to help their local fabs, around the
world."
