John, what a goofy story. whoever wrote this hasn't been around very long.

"Intel is quickly rebuilding itself into the world's largest manufacturer of flash chips."

Uhhh, Intel has been the largest Flash producer since the product was commercialized.

All that other stuff about profit growth and all the CAPX going to flash are off base. In fact, it wasn't so long ago that nobody was making money selling Flash, just like there was a time not so long ago when nobody was making money selling DRAM. Now the market is tight and sellers have the edge, so its profitable.

Don't get me wrong, Flash is currently a great business for Intel, but its not like its a new business discovery.

regards,
jh

John - re: "Intel's Giant Steps into Flash Memory"

Thanks for the article.

There are a LARGE number of factual errors, however. Intel has always been the largest manufacturer of flash memory, and their discussion of wafer fabs for flash is "off", neglecting the Colorado Springs plant, among other details.
