But I'm NOT convinced the only life in the universe in on earth. There's just no evidence that there is any anywhere else. Clearly, Sagan's assertion that there are BILLIONS of civilizations out there was wildly out of whack. As for our low rent address in the universe, to characterize our neighborhood as the boondox is just as anthropomorphic as it is to characterize it as the center. Life as we understand it probably couldn't exist in the high radiation central galaxy. If you believe that life requires heavy elements, we would have to exist in an epoch of multi-generation stars. well to be so convinced that we are the only intelligent life in this universe seems to be the height of arrogance.
