A probably does equal A. We just have uncovered part of the puzzle. Time can run backward as easily as forward without violating any physics or "A is A." Our perception is that causality is violated, but perhaps we need to redefine our understanding of causality. If we stop thinking linearly and start thinking dimensionally then it begins to make sense.
