If there is paying work to do, subcontractors will materialize.

Those guys gotta get paid. Lets say it takes 1 person 1 hour/home including transport time. Including materials/overhead etc lets wild guess $75/customer. I'd bet its a lot more than that right now.

Ok- @home needs 5 million new customers in 2001. That means the MSO's will need to spend $375,000,000 next year on truck rolls. 5,000,000 man hours. There are roughly 2000 man hours in a year so you need 2500 installers working full time.

I think 2002 the goal was 12 million new customers. Say they manage to cut the cost of a truck roll to $50. Thats $600,000,000 spent on truck rolls. 6000 installers.

Feasable? Nope. They can't even do 40,000 a quarter now. You honestly think they can ramp to 3,000,000 a quarter in a couple of years?

Self install is vital or ATHM will always be second string.
