According to Dave Barry, the only reason you need a fast connection to the Internet is for the one real killer app, which is researching and investing in NASDQ stocks that have to do with the Internet. (I guess he didn't want to mention the other killer app- he's printed in mostly family type magazines)

I wanted cable modem service for years. Back in March of this year I was able to get broadband service - ADSL from BellAtlantic - did a self install and haven't had any problems. I have three computers connected through a Linksys cable/dsl router for $39.95 a month. Cable modem broadband companies lost me as a customer and I wanted to be one. In my opinion most everyone with a computer and an internet connection will one day in the not to distant future have broadband service - broadband service will need to be more affordable and more reliable for this to happen.
