Telewest Set-Top Shortage
July 21, 2000

Telewest Communications has temporarily suspended the active pursuit of new digital-TV customers because of a shortage of set-top boxes.

The UK's number two MSO will continue to enroll analog subscribers, however, while giving them incentives to sign up for digital service at a later date.

At last report, in March, Telewest served 156K digital customers and had expected to boost that number to 500K by year-end.

The set-top supply shortfall will be corrected within a month, the company says.
