Yes, we're moving to a very-near-complete wired world.

Not as fast as we could be because of political obstructions in much of the world. India has 2.6 telephones per 100 people, compared with a world average of around 15.

Technology is not the limiting factor but politics. In much of the world the state run telecoms sector is a political football and an important source of patronage. Unfortunately there is still the attitude that is better that the people get no service than let a foreign investor provide it.
