Alcatel to Add Two New Buildings in Texas Telecom Corridor; Plans include 300,000 square feet new space to accommodate growth BusinessWire, 07/21/2000 08:19 PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 2000--Alcatel (NYSE:ALA) today announced it will break ground in the fourth quarter this year for a new 100,000 square-foot three-story office building here in response to the company's growing worldwide business. The company also has plans for an additional 200,000-square-foot six-story office building that could be occupied by early 2002. In total, the two campus additions will have space for 1,200 offices. When the two new buildings are completed, Alcatel's Plano campus will have more than 2,046,000 square feet of space. Alcatel currently employs 6,500 in the Dallas metroplex. Total cost of the new buildings will be more than $52 million, not including land. "These new facilities are intended to relieve space constraints and provide for future growth resulting from Alcatel's recognized leadership in supplying advanced telecommunication systems and services to its customers," said Krish Prabhu, chief operating officer, Alcatel. "The results of the efforts of our employees here in the Telecom Corridor benefit customers around the world." The two new buildings are part of a long-term strategy developed to add up to ten new buildings on property Alcatel owns in Plano. The company anticipates adding buildings at the rate of one per year, with the flexibility to adjust the schedule in response to market demand for its products.
