Today we're looking at a host of the new socketed Athlons, running at speed grades of 700, 750, and 800 MHz. All of these, of course, come with 384k of on-die full speed cache (128k L1, 256k L2), allowing them to compete directly against Intel's Coppermine Pentium III processors. Even though the Thunderbird should be able to tromp the Coppermine in pure CPU power, in our first round of tests of the Thunderbird, the Coppermine still edged out AMD's latest and greatest for one reason alone. Motherboards.
