" In the south, Tamil Nadu consumes the maximum gold, followed by Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. K Shivram, manager (south) of the World Gold Council in India, confidently says: “We expect a growth of five to 10 per cent in consumption. RE: Anglo American Leads the Charge on Australia's Mining Industry

So far the very weak Australian dollar has made Australian mining shares some of the cheapest in the world. I have been saying they were undervalued all year and was suprised more takeovers have not occured. The recent bidding war for North Limited has taken those shares from $A2.50 up to $A4.34.

Some of the gold stocks are closer to 52 week highs. Since late April, Sons of Gwalia has moved from $A4 to $A5.50 and Goldfields went from $1 to $1.44. Although not a new high, Newcrest (one of my favorites) has had a decent rise from $A3.20 to $A4.40. Normandy, always mentioned by the press as a takeover target, moved quickly from $A0.83 to $A1.07, but has backed up to $0.97. There are way too many listed Australian producers and I can not imagine all of them still around a year from now.

The Australian gold index is up to 730 from a real nice triple bottom near 650
