Thanks for the link. From what I remember of the SciAm
article, The Times piece seems more of a continuation
of Nakamura's great adventure here [there] at UCSB.
Although I seem to recall his preferring academe to
commercially sponsored research, it sure would seem
that his love for the compound semiconductor and the
commercially viable blue laser would at least interest
him in CREE's work. I'll bet he's had some offers.

It's interesting that his two "best friends," Mishra and Denbaars, are working for Cree now and are very well off as a result. It must be tempting for him....

Nakamura's inventions will help change the world for the better..... Regular incandescent light bulbs are dangerous (sharp glass when broken and high heat that can burn one's skin very easily), and use far too much energy. Go Nakamura go! Yogi
