Rick: Well, for one, there are several companies working on developing optical transponder cards that slot into the PCI or front end bus on a PC. This kind of development, coupled with flexible fiber that can be snaked around a home/business and tied directly into the transponder card, would allow bandwidth 10 to 100 times the current maximum 1.5 MB/sec achieved by DSL/cable modems. Bingo! - full screen video on demand, etc. etc. Given 3Com's long NIC experience, such a development would be a natural, and would fit neatly into 3Com's broadband and home/small business networking products. Have to do some digging on who is working in this part of the optical field. Any ideas? David T.
