"Survival of the fittest" --- That's in the animal kingdom, dude. Even then, that was before the arrival of man. This is about killing competition (and innovation) through the leveraging of a monopoly. Unlike animals, the human community has 'standards'. --- What platform do I use to run my software programs? The Internet. --- Currently, I use a *nix (minicom) or DOS ({Commo}) terminal program to dial into my Unix shell account. All of my "software programs" are there and elsewhere with my 'stuff' across different servers. --- I use a remote Pine and sometimes Mutt to read mail. I use Lynx as my web browser. It's all text and very fast. What I am about to switch to though is a 1981 Osborne 1 (CP/M) portable running WordStar and 'MyTerm' on a floppy. Ultimately, I'll have a battery made and a wireless modem on it. --- I don't know how Netscape does the Usernames and Password thing. The way I do it with Lynx is alias si='lynx http/blah.blah.com -auth <username>:<password>' I just typed 'si' <CR> to get to you from the shell prompt. Who do I thank for that? -JCJ
