One summer about a thousand years ago I was visiting my grandmother. My younger brother arrived from college, announcing that he had converted to vegetarianism. This was a bit of a shock to my grandmother, whose idea of a proper meal inevitably involved a meat centerpiece.

She set about the cure, which consisted simply of passing spectacular meat dishes in front of his face three times a day. On the third morning she walked into the living room and announced "I finally got that boy to eat a Christian breakfast".

He was in the kitchen, plowing into bacon and sausage. Another successful cure.

She's dead now, but my grandfather is still alive, and at 93 he still eats bacon every morning.
