Shopping the Market for "Best Buys"
S&P's Sam Stovall says health care, tech, and energy all merit attention

Where will the "best-buy" stocks be in the next 12 months? In technology, health care, and selected energy industries. And what sectors should investors avoid? Basic materials, consumer cyclicals, and transportation.

That's the advice of Sam Stovall, sector strategist for Standard & Poor's (like Business Week Online, a unit of the McGraw-Hill Comapnies). And according to Stovall, many of the stocks that score best in S&P's Stock Appreciation Ranking System (STARS) fall into the sectors S&P recommends overweighting. For example, S&P gives 5-STARS {meaning "buy") to a number of semiconductor companies, including Intel, Applied Materials, and Taiwan Semiconductor.
