Scumbria-- Re: I took a trip to Fry's today. Lot's of 1GHz and 900 MHz Athlon systems on display.

So what? Intel tries not to lower itself to the type of clientele that shops at Fry's. Intel has much more refined tastes in its clients.

SCUMbria - Re: "BTW:The fastest PIII at Fry's was an 866MHz "Manager's special". After that 733MHz was the top of the line PIII. "

You forgot to mention that 18 out of 23 NoteBook Computers were all Intel Inside and that there were 5 or 6 with 700 and 750 MHz Pentium IIIs inside.

Intel made more on each 700 and 750 MHz Notebook Pentium III CPU than AMD did on their GigaWatters !!

And there were a heckuva lot more Intel-based Notebook PCs than any AMD computer - Desktop OR notebook !

You can finesse the data, SCUMbria, but you can't finesse the truth.

SCUMbria - Re: "X-box is supposed to be in the 650-700MHz range. You could take a 900MHz Athlon, drop the voltage way down, and run it at very low power underclocked at 700MHz. "

No you can't - the pin out will be all wrong, the chip set won't support it, etc.

You have a difficult time dealing with reality from 6 months ago - AMD LOST the X-BOX CONTRACT TO INTEL

Get a grip !

I took a trip to Fry's today. Lot's of 1GHz and 900 MHz Athlon systems on display.

I was in Fry's yesterday and noticed a sign for GigaMines. I was in a hurry and didn't catch what else was available.

X-box is supposed to be in the 650-700MHz range.

The spec has been bumped to a P3-733.
