God did not tell the Israelites to cut off their foreskins. But clearly someone did. In more modern religions we can see how symbols of a people are mandated (look at Sikkism). There is no disagreement between religious adherents and their detractors as to the reality of circumcision. Before the biblical books were found, translated, and chosen for inclusion in the official version...what was the impetus or motive for such a bizarre method for denoting inclusion as one of the CHOSEN ?? I can only conjecture that it was originally a method for a distinct and threatened people to preserve their identity, safety, and recognition of one another in an environment where they were often separated through enslavement, etc. This is simply a mental exercise on my part, for fun. I've done little research on the matter. But the singularity of this fact seems to demand an explanation. The modern day explanation, from some, that it was a cleanliness issue learned by trial and error in a primitive culture, simply does not hold any water, and is a patent invention. I doubt if much can be truly determined beyond reasoned conjecture. Of course, if you believe that this established practice began from a God commandment, then what I've said is irrelevant to you. That is not a problem for me. This is clearly not simply an adventitious happenstance that found its way into these biblical annals. It was and is an important symbol. It was done (and still is done) to designate a chosen people. Tell me where it started and what it means?!! The original practicioners might have gotten it from a Guru god. What do you think? Tazio...I have never eaten snake, so I cannot tell you what it tastes like. :)
