GVTucker re: realized investment gains and losses are indeed included on the income statement. OTOH, unrealized gains are reflected only on the balance sheet.

Thanks for clearing up some accounting confusion. I am still in murky water when it comes to Dell's placement of proceeds from Dell officer and employee option hedging that Gabriel first referred to. My mind has those proceeds (losses) never reaching the income statement as Gabriel pointed out, in contradistinction to cash from DellVenture's investment gains. Is this some sort of accounting exception or is there an actual principle at work here? TIA
