Mark, Capstone (cpst) and American superconductor (amsc) made the Gilder report. >NEW YORK, July 24 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch said Monday analyst Sam Brothwell has started coverage of Capstone Turbine <CPST.O> with a near-term accumulate, long-term buy rating. -- said while the stock "has had a very strong run since its June 29 IPO, we believe there is plenty of upside left to the story." -- Company is "the leading developer of microturbines for distributed production of high quality power. Currently shipping 30 kilowatt units, and (a) 60 kilowatt version is due out late 2000." -- Noted Capstone is the first non-fuel cell component of Merrill's energy tech coverage, adding "we think it is attractively positioned relative to its peers, Ballard Power <BLD.TO>, FuelCell Energy <FCEL.O>, and Plug Power <PLUG.O>. -- Like a fuel cell, Capstone's product packs high quality, reliable power into a small, easily sited, environmentally friendly package. -- Key factors setting Capstone apart: availability of product today; lower technology and commercialization risk; and low unit cost. In early trading Monday, Capstone shares were up 1-3/4 to 59-5/16. FuelCell Energy was also posting a gain -- up 15/16 to 70-1/8 -- but Plug Power was down 9/16 to 58-3/16 and Ballard was down 1.9 to 155.0 in Toronto trading.
