NW: Have U been following the story of the Vt dairy sheep, imported from Europe in 1996? Feds want to slaughter them. Farmers fighting to save them. At issue is scabies, which is a sheep version, more or less, of bovine spongiform encephalopothy. Some of the sheep, which apparently entered the country despite the general ban on Euro dairy animal imports (due to the outbreak of mad cow disease in England in the 1995-6), have tested positive for the scabies viral agent. They've been eating some of these sheep up there in the north country. M2
