What about shorting? I know you do it occasionally.

Gregory M.: Amen. Excellent post. It seems that July 16th or 17th is the date that seems to trigger the "summer swoon". I'm raising mucho cash, gobbling up selected bargains (suggest looking at KOPN at $21 & change) and waiting for the real buying opportunity in September.

P.S. Telecommunications chips seem to be in a bear market. Some great buying ops here; just not sure when they will bottom. Suggest looking specifically at: ANAD at $27, LSI at $46, and ATML. Also, AMAT is attractive and NVLS is on my radar screen; when this seems to bottom, I'll load the truck with this one. Bon appetit.

Greg, I just bailed out of Dresdner RCN Biotech (DRBNX) with a slight loss; and PBTCX wanting to preserve my tremendous gains since May 25th. I remember what happened on July 21st, 1998 when the bottom fell out...I have no independent thoughts on this year's market, only history...

B. Liddell Hart: "Why Don't We Learn from History?"...

My gut told me to get out last Friday...I did not listen...would have saved me about 10 Grand. I still have the Q...(does that make me a Q-head?)..and PBHEX and ROGSX. Today, I also dumped STLW, JDSU, INTC, and EGOV with mixed results...I had hoped for a bigger pop on these.

I love the fact that when times are good, good funds allow you to have a life other than the computer...downside is that you can't get out midday if you need to...upside is that you can pull the trigger and change your mind before closing...

A belated welcome back. Missed you when you were "Over There!"

Joe K.....

Hi Greg,

I'm rejiggering the port (tight but semi-diverse) and considering the following by mid-Sept:

26% JDSU
25% QQQ
15% SDLI
12% GMST
12% CSCO
5% NTAP
5% CREE

QQQ is for stability. Should probably switch CREE with EMC.

Thanks,

John
