Well, I can't give you a technical assessment, but I can say that Nettles did mention wireless as a big factor in the internet infrastructure buildout when he was interviewed on the Nightly Business Report a while back. And it is interesting to note that Ciena has been attending a number of wireless conferences-perhaps this is the first of many in a new category of customers. Finally, while the wireless sector has been hit with news of Ericisson's headset problems, the wireless infrastructure buildout continues to be strong...a trend on which I believe Ciena will capitalize...

>>Fortunately, the real engine of Ericsson -- wireless infrastructure sales -- had started kicking in
even as the phone division began fading. The network business is the real heart of Ericsson; the
company started making mobile phones more or less as an afterthought.

Ericsson's mobile-network sales stayed firm throughout the late '90s, and now when most
operators are starting to upgrade their second-generation networks, the company stands ready to
reap the gains from an entirely new product cycle. The potential of this shift first became evident in
Ericsson's first-quarter results, when the growth of the mobile-infrastructure operations became
obvious.<<

Michael,

It is my understanding that Ciena does not record revenues until such time as the product has been shipped, installed, tested, and accepted by the customer. I gather that these revenues would then be recorded, and may represent a nice upside earnings surprise next month.
