Orders For AFS Systems Roll In From Isuzu Truck (UK) Ltd. and Other Customers In The UK

CALGARY, July 26 /CNW/ - Following its successful emissions, fleet, and
field tests in the United Kingdom, Alternative Fuel Systems Inc. (`AFS') has
received orders for 20 more of its innovative Eagle Diesel Dual Fuel (`DDF')
System. Isuzu Truck (UK) Ltd. has purchased five systems in this latest
order. A division of British Gas has also purchased the AFS Eagle system for
use in a LNG application, a first for AFS' DDF System. This latest round of
purchases follows AFS' recent successes in emissions testing and the inclusion
of AFS technology in several major industry trade shows in the UK.
In April, a truck equipped with the AFS Eagle successfully met EURO II
emissions standards as part of a cooperative project with Isuzu Truck (UK)
Ltd. and Clean Exhaust Emissions Limited (`CEEL'). These tests demonstrated
the power, performance, and reduced emissions provided by the AFS Eagle DDF
System on a medium-duty truck. In the UK, where DDF systems are growing in
popularity, these AFS-equipped Isuzu engines will be the first of their type
commercially available for medium-duty trucks. Last month this Isuzu/AFS
System was on display at several industry shows in the UK. Clifford Groves,
General Manager of CEEL says, ``This sector of the trucking industry is
becoming more and more important to the public, utility, and retail
distribution sectors. In many cases, the very nature of the operation demands
compliance with strict local environmental criteria. This Isuzu/AFS engine
offers an effective solution for fleets whose operations are under the public
gaze.'' Groves also reports that trials on this Isuzu/AFS engine have
confirmed retention of ``excellent drivability'', power, and torque.
The rest of the UK order, also sold through AFS' UK distributor, CEEL,
will go to various customers throughout the UK. Part of this order is an
acquisition by a large London-based trucking company considering switching
their fleet to the AFS DDF System.
AFS President John C. Anderson stated, ``The increasing demand for our
natural gas-based systems clearly indicates the market's acceptance of natural
gas as the most viable clean air option. Natural gas vehicles aren't
theoretical concepts waiting to happen. This is a technology that has proven
repeatedly to be practical and effective in real world applications. Now that
major manufacturers and fleet owners are putting these systems into operation,
DDF and other natural gas technologies are swiftly moving from the fringe and
pilot stage to widespread applications. With natural gas' established
fuelling infrastructure, emissions reductions, proven technologies, and
growing user acceptance, it is evident that natural gas systems are, and will
continue to be, the leading choice in clean air technologies.''
Alternative Fuel Systems Inc (`AFS'), based in Calgary, Alberta,
Canada, is a world leader in innovative natural gas and emission reduction
systems and components. It is publicly traded on the CDNX as `ATF'.
