mepci, RE: Tax wise there is no net effect unless there are losses in these trades.

On the contrary, there is a net effect from awarding options to employees. On a tax basis the company can expense these options. It is not a cost on a GAAP basis, however, thus there must be a reconciling item on the cash flow statement to match cash taxes paid to book taxes accrued.
