Radio Wall Street Interview with Irwin Jacobs on China, Korea, Japan, Spinco, W-CDMA 1xEV etc etc etc. 40 minutes of very interesting discussion. Just in case anybody missed it - it's been in all the Q! streams [and Nokia].

He is a supreme competitor but in the nicest way! He pointed out [to Korea] that they have developed a great home market and a huge export business in CDMA on the back of the home market so it would not be wise to jeopardize their home market. He compared Korea to Japan which is also developing a home market in CDMA, which will also involve them in exports.

Korea would not want to lose their enormous lead, so they had better not muck it up and worry unduly about royalties, which Japan has to pay too.

Of course lots about Spinco.

People who don't have ADSL or other high speed Web access such as 1xEV will wish they had for watching Web broadcasts.

He also pointed out that the remaining components of Q! had revenue of $1.16Bn over the past 9 months with earnings before tax of $663M while the Spinco parts had $965M revenue and $361M earnings.

Adding those together, we get $2Bn in revenue and $1Bn in earnings for 9 months.

In case anyone has got a short memory, it is not many years ago that QUALCOMM achieved $10M in earnings for a whole year!

For those who can't see the future, which is obviously a lot of you since the share price is only $60 or so, that rate of progress is only a warm-up. Don't forget, you should also add the revenue and earnings for Leap Wireless International to get a better idea of the achievement.

Don't forget WirelessKnowledge either. Oh yes, Phone.com and a few other little holdings too, some of which are not yet making a big profit, such as Globalstar :-[

Congratulations [once again] to the people at QUALCOMM who have had continuing amazing success over 16 years since forming the company. Okay, it's not as fast as Yahoo! or Amazon, but it's going to be a lot bigger than Yahoo! [which suffers 'no barriers to entry' problems]. Anybody can rustle up some code for the Web.

While that's all going on, did anybody notice my old company BP has now got Amoco, Arco and Castrol as part of the company? Their new name = Beyond Petroleum. For example they are the world's biggest maker of photovoltaics.

PS: Since Tiger got the Kiwi Kaddy he has been doing a bit better. The laser improvements on his eyes probably helped too.
