Dear Nihil, How are you? You are right that he was not technically a Jew at that time. However, he is considered the first Jew because the people from Judah would come from him and all the promises of his seed would apply to them. That is why I mentioned circumcision to show he was the father of these people to come. Also, he became the father of all who put their faith in God. What an interesting man he must have been.
