However, it does have intrinsic value for industrial uses as well as ornamentation. Where that is, is another issue but I would certainly prefer a gold ring to silver or platinum, for that matter. Gold leaf is nice, too.

I guess, ultimately, the litmus test for intrinsic value will be whether you can eat, wear or sleep under a given investment.
