rudedog re wireless PCs

"not true..."

it is true for the next generation where most features come "built in" and operate under the SoC principles. You can buy your cards for the 1.2mgbs speeds in two years, but your PC will still deliver only up to the speed of your builtin PC modem. current modem speeds don't handle video transmission well. add-ons for those faster processing features would be too high for individuals. might as well buy a new laptop. (i.e., lucent's fixed wireless box for the in-office PC relative to the LMDS/MMDS environment runs from $400 to $700 per user depending on features)

same is happening for newer features of GPRS. depends on what features you're looking for.

3g handsets are expected to cost anywhere from $350 to $600 per depending on features/company - nearly 1/2 the cost of the Laptop which will carry the same features at the top end.
