You said yourself that 100mil seemed small. Look at this way would you think that NOK would have to pay just 100 mil? NO! I understand what they are up to, they have realized that they have to get into the GSM and a pure QCOM CDMA based 3G is not going to happen, so they have to cross license to compete (but how are they going to do that with the same management team? that is what is gray in my mind and needs further reading to grasp) , and feel the best way to do so would be with an independent company, but in reality it's just the same company split into two with the same management team with 100 mil being generated. You can't compare to say what T did with LU. I would compare it to INTC if they where to spin off the graphic chip biz or chip set biz, but kept the same management team. They also want to separate themselves from the baggage of Globalstar, digital cinema, snap track, mobile internet, etc, etc and focus on what is really the meat of the company. If it was me I would spin off the other stuff and gave it a new name and kept QCOM for the chip biz, since in my mind that has always been QCOM.

But you are right that's my first read on the subject. I need to look into it closer.
