Alastair, you are correct that increases in billings can
make the book-to-bill lower, but in this case, order growth
really has fallen.

The table below shows month-over-month percentage increase
in the preliminary bookings. (I did not use the revised
figures because that would be comparing apples to oranges.)

Prelim
Month Bookings, %Incr From %Incr From
$Millions Prev Month Prev Year

January 2177.8
February 2268.0 4.2% 136%
March 2451.7 8.1% 113%
April 2731.3 11.4% 168%
May 2745.6 0.5% 139%
June 2796.1 1.8% 93%

1.8% monthly growth still works out to a pretty nice annual
growth rate, but it's a heck of a lot lower than it was.
Some of this is a seasonal effect, which is reflected in
the fact that the year-on-year growth shows less variation.

You can also look at the blue graph on Gottfried's chart,
which includes the revised and final numbers where
available.

You can see that it has a significantly lower slope since
April. (Bear in mind that the slope for the last two months
will change when the final numbers are available.)
