Corning profits beat expectations:

Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) reported today that its second quarter pro forma earnings per share increased 80 percent. The performance was driven by strong demand for Corning's high-technology products, particularly its high-data-rate optical fiber and cable, and LCD flat-panel display glass.

The company also announced that it is raising its full-year pro forma earnings per share outlook to a range of $3.15 - $3.25, an increase of approximately 60% versus last year’s $2.00.
