Yeah, that's pretty much the conclusion Kierkegaard came to.

After trying to understand the crazier parts of the Bible, he concluded that there was no way around the necessity of a "leap of faith" (i.e., there was no way to justify it on a rational basis).

Anyone can believe if they understand - it takes a true act of faith to believe without understanding.

"A true act of faith" is only one of many possible explanations for "believing without understanding." The other potential explanations are even less charitable.
