Re the consumer numbers: The conumer is feeling good. Here in Canada, the economic news has been looking better and better. Yesterday, we heard that Nortel is expanding again, Bombardier is building a new plant to take care of a huge backlog of aviation orders, and Sears Canada expects to hire 4,000 new retail workers.

Concerning the economic data you posted I think we can agree the direction of the economy will be better revealed in the ECI and GDP numbers to be released later this week. It should give an indication as to whether or not the economy has or has not really begun to slow.
