Well here's a game we can all play (even you Duff). Do you think that we're going to hold that 52 week low?

I feel like Scotty, "Aye capt'n, I don't think she can take much more!"

Grace:

Do you think that ATHM makes 3 million by YE00 without self installs? Or 6 million by YE01? Or 12 million by YE02? If so, perhaps the better investment is in whoever supplies the vans.

I think that it's erroneous to think that self-installs won't spur demand. Regardless of whether there's a backlog of people on the waitlist of "@Home-ready" areas, I think that there are many, many people who don't have @Home because they don't want to deal with taking a day off from work or waiting in a 4 hour window of time for the cable guy to arrive, not to mention the installation fee.

I've set up and run many networks (although I admit that it's been a while) and know the headaches that go along with people monkeying with their configurations. I think it's worth the risk.

I agree that it would not be good for ATHM to be the next AOL. That doesn't mean that ATHM can't use some of AOL's tactics.

AT&T wants C&C as partners and I don't think that AT&T cares that C&C is on the board, so long as AT&T controls the board and management, which it does. I think that management HAS improved since AT&T took over the reigns. I don't see how it's in T's interests to lose the other cable guys.

There is a wait list, but it is caused by the service not being available within the local loop in some neighborhoods

Grace- the penetration into areas who have @home service available is 6.2%. I would be extremely disappointed if that is the kind of penetration we get long term. Wouldn't you? ATHM will have roughly 50 million homes once they cut loose the international stuff. 6.2% would mean maxing out at just over 3 million subscribers in North America. Not exactly AOL on steroids.

However you do make a very legitimate point. The more homes upgraded the better. Has anyone looked into how the pace of upgrading is going vs. what was expected? 6 million homes were added last quarter.

It might be possible that the MSO's dragging their feet are the underlying cause of the weak subscriber growth. To my knowledge nobody at ATHM has said this is so.
