Here's something interesting to ponder...

How many times could QCOM split the same apple? As I understand it, QCOM will retain a majority of it's IPR, and continue to license it at the same rate. Spinco will be given just enough IPR to be able to swap with the GSM IPR owners. So QCOM took what was a set of 1, and has made it 1+, since now there will be two companies with rights to essential IPR. How many times could you keep doing this? Could QCOM further split the "new" QCOM into 2 equal IPR based companies, each requiring the same royalty payments? If so, why not split into 4, or 8, or 16....? Why not give every sharholder their own Patent (silly, I know...)?

I don't think this will happen, but it just struck me as odd that where once there was 1 company with a strong hold on CDMA, now there will be 2, each of which needs to be dealt with.
