"Q will be inventing new CDMA products, as well as selling royalties. So they will be spawning new tornadoes or participating in the new wireless ones. Also, as SPINCO invents new stuff, QCOM gets to use that new IPR as it sees fit. Some of it will be for royalties. Some of it will be new solutions. QCOM wins no matter what. "

This is as close as I can recall to having one's cake and eating it.

Hi DS,

<< Q will be inventing new CDMA products, as well as selling royalties. So they will be spawning new tornadoes or participating in the new wireless ones. Also, as SPINCO invents new stuff, QCOM gets to use that new IPR as it sees fit. Some of it will be for royalties. Some of it will be new solutions. QCOM wins no matter what. >>

Since they will share IPR on an ongoing basis, it appears that Spinco and QCOM will have an ongoing strategic relationship that should be beneficial to each. This will make them collaborators rather than competitors, as the future landscape evolves. Sounds pretty exciting.

If I may be so blunt! <vbg>
