From what I've been seeing, the chip market is fine. Earnings shortfalls have in general been blamed on capacity limitations rather than sales problems. The problem is that either cause results in a growth slowdown which translates into reduced expectations by analysts.

I was interested in hearing during the conference call that the increase in wafer starts was lower than anticipated, indicating that new capacity is coming online more slowly than anticipated.
