Sounds like there's some nomenclature confusion here, I wonder if it's a translation problem? 760MP sounds a lot more consistent with announced plans and schedules than the 64bit processor. It'd be funny if the Germans were reporting back from Mike Magee getting confused talking to Germans he didn't quite understand, all over a nice doppelbock or 2 or 3. Some recent links I turned up on Sledgehammer the processor: techweb.com AMD's Sledgehammer 64-bit processor is expected to sample early next year and challenge Intel's own 64-bit offering, Itanium. The successor to the AMD Mustang, an unnamed 32-bit core, will begin life at 2 GHz. zdnet.com Although not due until at least late next year, a replacement for Athlon will run at 2GHz and above, offering 64-bit memory addressing, AMD officials revealed here at PC Expo. The new chip will be based on technology from AMD's 64-bit server chip, code-named Sledgehammer. Samples now vs. "early next year" is almost believable, if everything went perfectly, but 760MP + name confusion seems much more probable. Still good news, if Compaq is supporting it. Cheers, Dan.
