Aw jeez... guess I'll have to take time out of washing and slicing vegetables for a Szechuan stir fry and come and 'splain what "crusty" is all about...

Hmm.. yes... I guess it should be classified as a....mood... It's a bit like being in a grumpy mood... except that it's more from an external irritation than from any inner grumpy tendencies...

Getting into a crusty mood can happen pretty fast... like... when you go out to the mailbox at the road and you're thinking that there might be something interesting in it... like maybe the latest issue of Arizona Highways... only instead, there's a big fat hydro bill... Yep... that's what you call "instant crusty"...

Crusty moods can also depart pretty quickly too... Like when it's a crappy, rainy day... but then something happens... like maybe a good friend that you haven't heard from in years...calls on the phone... then you become uncrusty.... instantly...

But you're right when you say...

Hard on outside, soft on inside, mebbe?

That's exactly right... because actually, people who get crusty are probably sort of... squishy... to start with... Maybe easy-going and relatively happy... But then some dumb thing crops up to cloud up their day...and then the crusty thing starts to happen... but as I said, it can melt away pretty quickly... so there you go...

Hope that 'splained things... Now back to the chopping and slicing...

BTW, a little footnote to my notes regarding crusty...

The ultimate crusty happens when you go out to your mailbox and find a "Dear Resident" letter telling you that the regional government is going to be spreading 800 tonnes of sewage sludge from the city waste treatment plant out on the fields across the road from your place in July...

Yep... that's the kind of thing that would make you *really* crusty... Supposedly, it isn't going to happen now...but that's a whole other story... ;-}>
