They also implied that Duron is sold out for the quarter. I wonder if that meant firm order or not, I assume that big OEM can bow out of the contract if there is no MB available. Are the mother board makers having more problem than anticipated to ramp manufacturing the socket A MB due to some inherent problem with the bus and socket A? The only thought I have is that there was a "rumor" that there was a couple of million Slot A motherboards sitting in dock warehouses in Tiapei when AMD was ready with the Thunderbird/Duron. If AMD was ready to go Socket A but our virtual gorilla partners weren't, what was AMD to do other than extend the life of Slot A? Remember initially the Slot A TBird would be available to OEMs only? Yet they are available to the DIY guy on Pricewatch. This lends support to the couple of million motherboards in the warehouse hypothesis. If this hypothesis is true, the question to be answered is "Why were so many Slot A boards ready at the end of Slot A's life?". As to the availability of Socket A boards, I can buy as many as I need at this time. In fact I bought an ASUS A7V and another TBird today. This board is like the one Doug reported buying today, the one with the multiplier dip switches. I wanted evaluate the Asus's entry to the KT133 arena and could have bought from any one of several vendors, the Asus A7V. MSI K7T Pro and many other Socket A boards are commonly available NOW. As to the question "Where are the OEM's?", I don't know, unless they are still chewing their way through the Slot A stockpile. If so, they must be getting near done. BTW, I'm holding all my AMD shares. I'm still "Long and Strong". Kindest regards, CrazyMan
