Hi, all:
This week I've made a few more minor changes to the FAQ. The biggest was another re-write of the definition for vaporware. As I couldn't make up my mind which to pick, I listed both that were submitted:

1. Vaporware describes unreleased software or hardware for which specifications exist, but the product is promised for some future date. Vaporware may be presented to the marketplace, often under nondisclosure, with features and benefits – Down South.
2. Vaporware is software which is promised when it is little more than a glint in the inventor's eye, with the announcement calculated primarily to stop competitors developing such a product, to stop customers buying the competing product, and to confuse and FUDalize others. - Mqurice

- Fred

P.S. I was planning to post the FAQ on Sunday but my cable connects was out, so I'm way behind on messages.

It's a misnomer to refer to Spinco simply as an ASIC manufacturer.

They are also a software company. Not a trivial distinction.

Regarding Spinco becoming simply another ASICs company: there is still the issue of the software that runs on those ASICs, and if I recall, Dr. Jacobs said the the hardware and software would be handled by the new company. It was my understanding that the software end was where the real superiority of the Q ASICs shone through. And it was there that Nokia was having such a difficult time of it. To me it looks like Spinco resembles the Intel/Microsoft duopoly and will therefore maintain its gorillanesss. The remaining Qualcomm will be a Rambus type of company sans the Intel control factor. Whether that is a gorilla or not I cannot tell.
