My experience in the past with foreign Muslims is that they prefer to have an American in the fray when negotiations are under way. The reason is that an American is expected to stand on principles and go by the rules. Where as, they don't trust one another to do the same.

That seems to have changed under the Clinton administration. I think we have lost more than most people realize with slick government. I don't know if we can regain trust in the world or not. At the moment we have economic and military strength and that seems to be carrying us. It doesn't give us trust or credibility in world affairs however.
