Re:high bandwidth memory is not generally needed for CPU performance

Of course, all that is needed is a very large cache memory and an ultra high speed hard disk. It also helps to run one program (which is smaller than the cache) at a time to reduce thrashing. In fact, thrashing can be completely eliminated by uniprogramming.

Generally speaking, the fewer programs you run at once the better.

PC66 may be adequate.

Scumbria,

Which problem? Recent DDR, DRDRAM an PC133 benchmarks indicate that high bandwidth memory is not generally needed for CPU performance.

Then I guess there's no need for a consortium. Did you want to send them an e-mail to let them know, or should I?

Dave

p.s. "what problem they were going to solve" was their terminology, not mine, I believe.

p.p.s. Did we ever decide if it was okay if ST Micro sued Atmel to protect their patents? Didn't hear back from you.
