/FROM PR NEWSWIRE LOS ANGELES 213-626-5500/ TO BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY EDITORS: JVC Selects Texas Instruments Programmable DSP for New e-CyberCam TI Technology Empowers Industry's First Digital Camcorder With E-mail Ready Video Clips and Digital Sound Effects DALLAS, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated, (NYSE: TXN) (TI), the world leader in digital signal processors (DSPs) and analog technology, today announced that Victor Company of Japan, Ltd. (JVC) has chosen TI's programmable DSP for its new digital camcorder, the e-CyberCam, model GR-DVM90, which is now available in the United States. TI's low-power, programmable DSP supports all the current audio compression formats on a single chip, allowing the e-CyberCam to offer the world's first digital camcorder with functions such as e-mail ready video clips and 12 kinds of digital sound effects in MP3 format. TI's TMS320C54x(TM) DSP encodes and decodes voice onto a Multimedia Card (MMC), transfers it to a PC and attaches it to an e-mail with up to 20 seconds of animation. "TI's programmable DSP provides us the flexibility and versatility to demonstrate the feature-rich capabilities of the e-CyberCam," said Yasutoshi Matsuo, General Manager of Engineering Development Department of AV & Multimedia Company at JVC. "This cross-platform product brings the best in digital imaging and sound quality to enhance the consumer's experience." TI's C54x DSP is the only solution that supports all widely-used digital audio and voice formats such as: MP3, G. 723.1, Windows Media Format, Advanced Audio Coding, ePAC and Acelp(R).net. TI's programmable DSP allows digital audio player manufacturers to update features and functions with a simple software download, rather than by upgrading internal hardware. Additionally, TI's DSP uses ultra-low power, extending the battery life of digital audio players by up to 50 percent, and its small size enables digital audio player makers to design devices with extremely compact form factors. "The e-CyberCam is a perfect example of the capabilities of TI's DSP, offering programmable solutions with multiple format support and minimum power consumption," said Jorge Kittl, worldwide business manager of the Internet audio business at Texas Instruments. "JVC's digital camcorder also demonstrates the pervasiveness of TI's DSP-based Internet audio solution into new end equipment areas."
